Chris Colfer: „The Land of Stories 5: An Author’s Odyssey“

Ich tu mich in letzter Zeit etwas schwer mit Buchreihen und Buchserien…

Das hat nicht nur mit dem Abbau meiner Bücher zu tun, sondern auch mit der eingegangenen gedanklichen „Verpflichtung“, die Reihe/ Serie weiterzulesen und zu verfolgen, was mit den Charakteren geschieht.

So in the last time I was not so comfortable with book series – this has not only to do with me clearing out my space, but also with this kind of felt „responsibility“ that comes when starting a series and wanting to know how the storie evolves.

Wie ihr eventuell gelesen habt, habe ich mich vor einer Weile dem jungen Sherlock Holmes gewidmet – diese Zeit ist nun allerdings auch vorbei. Trotz das die Geschichten interessant waren, ist die Freude an den Büchern und dem Warten auf den nächsten Band verflogen und so habe ich mich von dem jungen Holmes verabschiedet.

Maybe you’ve read some of my articles about the young Sherlock Holmes – this time is over. I mean the stories were great but waiting for the next one to come out and the passionate interest in the story went away. So I said goodbye to the young Holmes.

The only „series“ I am now reading is „The Land of Stories“ by Chris Colfer. I found the first book when I was in Wales in 2014 and since then have read all the books and these stories have always been good ones.

Die einzige „Serie“, die ich derzeit verfolge und von der ich auch alle Teile gelesen habe, ist Chris Colfers „The Land of Stories“. Den ersten Band brachte ich damals aus Wales mit und bis jetzt haben mich die Geschichten rund um Alex und Conner nicht enttäuscht.

So ist auch der fünfte Teil mit dem Titel „An Author’s Odyssey“ wieder gut gelungen und lässt mich auf den letzten Teil freuen.

So now – or a little while ago – I read the fifth book with the title „An Author’s Odyssey“ – and this lets me get excited for the last part of the story to be released.

Wo sind wir jetzt also in der Geschichte der Zwillinge?

So, where are we in the story of the twins?

It all starts pretty normal: Mrs. Peters, the former teacher of the twins is ending her working days – and while she says her goodbyes to her classroom she comes across Alex and Connor…

Es fängt eigentlich auch wieder relativ normal an: die ehemalige Lehrerin der beiden, Mrs. Peters, wird pensioniert und nimmt Abschied von ihrem ehemaligen Klassenraum. Dabei sieht sie wen wieder? Ja klar, die Zwillinge.

„Mr. Bailey! Miss Bailey!“ she said.

The twins had grown so much since the last time Mrs. Peters had seen them, especially Alex. Mrs. Peters couldn’t help gawking at the long, beautiful gown she wore. It was the color of the sky and sparkled as she moved, like something out of a fairy tale.“

Da Mrs. Peters nicht auf den Kopf gefallen ist, weiß sie auch etwas über die fairy tale world – sehr zum Schreck von Alex. Aber Mrs. Peters erklärt sich: sie hatte als Kind im Krankenhaus eine Begegnung mit der fairy godmother, Alex Großmutter.

So because Mrs. Peters is a smart person she really knows about the fairy tale world – which makes Alex give Connor really bad looks… But Mrs. Peters explains that she met the fairy godmother as a child while being in hospital.

Von Mrs. Peters bekommt Connor dann seine Geschichten, die die beiden Geschwister brauchen, um die Märchenwelt zu retten.

Mrs. Peters then gives Connor his stories back which the twins need to save the fairy tale world. 

If this isn’t already too late…

Wenn es nur nicht zu spät ist…

„Over the course of one night, the Wicked Witch of the West’s Winkie army attacked the Charming Kingdom and the Troblin Territory. Her flying monkeys were sent to terrorize the Elf Empire and the Corner Kingdom. The Queen of Hearts marched her card soldiers through the Center Kingdom and then wreaked havoc on the Eastern Kingdom. Captain Hook’s band of pirates poisened the waters of Mermaid Bay, sending the mermaids fleeing deeper into the ocean. Captain Hook’s flying ship, the Jolly Roger, attacked the Fairy Kingdom, leaving the palace in pieces. Then the captain took the Northern Kingdom by storm.“

Das alles klingt nicht sehr gut und auch die Bewohner der Königreiche mussten Leid ertragen: ihre Häuser wurden verbrannt, die Tiere gestohlen, die Feen hatten sich entweder versteckt oder waren nicht mehr am Leben, die Wälder wurden langsam abgebrannt und man konnte sich immer weniger verstecken…

That all doesn’t sound that good and also the people living in the several kingdoms had to face bad times: their houses were burned, the animals stolen, the fairies either were seemed to be dead or gone away, the forests were slowly burned and no one could have a safe place to go to anymore…

Der maskierte Mann führt sich als neuer Herrscher auf und ist nicht erfreut, als der Plan von Goldilocks gelingt und sie die „alten“ Herrscher rettet, mit Hilfe des Tin Woodman!

The Masked Man is calling himself the new emperor of this land and is not really in a good mood when the plan of Goldilocks and her friends goes like it was planned and they save the „former“ kings and queens from being killed – with the help of the Tin Woodman!

For sure the other characters are also helping in every way they can – even if there are still some „things“ between them:

Natürlich sind auch andere Freunde mit dabei, auch wenn es immernoch einige Differenzen zwischen ihnen gibt:

„Robin Hood and his Merry Men swung down from the treetops on ropes like monkeys on vines. […] –

„Gosh, I really hate that guy“, Jack whispered to Goldilocks.“

Der Plan zur Rettung des Märchenlandes?

So – what’s the plan to save the fairy tale world?

Connor wants to get the heroes of his stories to help him in this fight…

Connor will aus seinen Geschichten die Helden herausholen, damit diese ihnen im Kampf zur Seite stehen…

Also gehen die Geschwister die Arbeit an.

So the twins get to work.

Sure that not everything goes well and also between the charakters that stayed behind are some crazy things happening:

Natürlich geht nicht alles gut und es gibt auch unter den unterschiedlichen Charakteren interessante Zwischenfälle:

„Trollbella watched Peter Pan in astonishment. Her heart was beating so fast, if it had wings, she could have joined him in flight.“

Die Dinge, die zwischenzeitlich geschehen sind zu umfangreich, daher nur hier ein Vorgeschmack auf die Helden, die Connor in seinen Geschichten findet und sie in die „normale“ Welt holt.

The things happening in the meantime are too much to tell here – you better read the book!

Here are some of the characters that appear in the stories of Connor and who he want to transfer to the „normal“ world…

Wir haben u.a. So we are likely to have f.e.

• ein weibliches Piratenteam (Boss: Auburn Sally) some female pirates
• Außerirdische (Cyborgs) extraterrestrial Cyborgs
• einen freundlich-hibbeligen Wurm, den sie retten und mitnehmen (Blissworm) a happy-go-lucky worm that is always excited – a Blissworm
• Begegnungen mit den „Helden“ der Geschichte von Bree some of the characters of a story of Bree (quite interesting)
• …

Und zu allem kommt noch hinzu, dass Goldilocks kurz vor der Geburt ihres Kindes steht…

And with all that happening – you don’t have to forget that Goldilocks is about to give birth…
