Liebe Leser,

längere Zeit habt ihr nichts von mir gelesen – aus dem einfachen Grund, dass ICH auch endlich wieder etwas mehr gelesen habe. Diesen Luxus habe ich mir gründlich gegönnt und nun kann ich euch einige Bücher empfehlen, die es definitiv Wert sind, gelesen zu werden.

for a long time you haven’t heard anything from me here – for a really good reason: I HAD to read some more. I enjoyed this luxury time and now I can recommend you some wonderful books, that are definitely worth more than just a look.

 

1 –   Die „All Souls“-Trilogie von Deborah Harkness

Ich bin im Laufe der Zeit wählerischer geworden in Bezug auf die Bücher, die ich lese – und seit damals „Twilight“ in die Kinos und Buchläden kam, häuften sich auch in Buchläden die Werke rund um Vampire und Hexen. Einige waren eine kurze Ablenkung, aber nach einer Weile gingen einem die ewig ähnlichen Thematiken schon ein wenig auf die Nerven. Das Lustige bei den Büchern von Deborah Harkness: vor Jahren bin ich auf die deutschen Ausgaben gestoßen, als ich im Buchladen gestöbert habe – und sie haben mir nicht gefallen. Irgendwie fand ich sie nicht interessant genug. Nun – die Zeiten haben sich geändert und so landeten die englischsprachigen Ausgaben (die auch von der Covergestaltung her ansprechender sind) Anfang des Jahres bei mir. Nun habe ich sie alle gelesen – und kann die Geschichte rund um Matthew und Diana nur weiterempfehlen. Sicher – es ist wieder eine Vampir-Hexe-Geschichte, aber die Gestaltung der Charaktere und die weiteren Nebencharaktere und Schauplätze der Handlung machen „Discovery of Witches“, „Shadow of Night“ und „The Book of Life“ zu wunderbaren Gefährten für die kommende kühlere Jahreszeit.

 

1 –   The „All Souls“-Trilogy by Deborah Harkness

In the course of my years reading I got more and more selective about the books I dive into. In the days since „Twilight“ hit the cinemas and bookstores a long while ago there was a flood of books and stories evolving around witches and vampires. Some of them were a little distraction, but after a while you just want to get rid of them and read something „better“. The funny thing about the trilogy by Deborah Harkness: I saw the german version of the three books some years ago in a bookstore – and didn’t like them. Somehow they didn’t catch my eye. But – times have changed and so the english versions of the books (which are btw more convincing in the style of their cover) moved in with me at the beginning of this year. Now I have read the trilogy and can definitely recommend the story evolving around Matthew and Diana. Sure – it’s a vampire-witch-storyline, but the characters and the places the story evolves in will drew you into reading the three books and enjoy it: „Discovery of Witches“, „Shadow of Night“ and „The Book of Life“ will be good companions for you to read in the colder days to come.

 

2 – „Kate and Clara’s Curious Cornish Craft Shop“ von Ali McNamara

Ich liebe die Bücher von Ali McNamara – mehr gibt es eigentlich dazu nicht zu sagen. Bereits vier weitere Bücher der Autorin haben ihr dauerhaftes Zuhause bei mir gefunden – und wer ein wenig sommerliche Lektüre mit einem Spritzer Magie sucht ist bei Ali McNamara wunderbar aufgehoben. Auch ihr neuester Roman lebt von sympathischen Charakteren, einer wunderbaren Umgebung und dem gewissen magischen Extra.

 

2 – „Kate and Clara’s Curious Cornish Craft Shop“ by Ali McNamara

I just love the books by Ali McNamara – there is nothing more to say to this. I already enjoyed four more books by the wonderful author which have their permanent home in my bookshelf. If you love to read some summer romance touched with a little bit of cornish magic – you are perfectly settled with Ali McNamara. Her newest novel also enchants with lovely characters, an amazing cornish outdoors scenery and the little magic to make you want to stay in St. Felix forever.

 

3 – „The Red Garden“ von Alice Hoffman

14 Geschichten, die zusammengehören und die Geschichte eines Ortes erzählen, dessen Bewohner so vielfältig sind und deren Einzelgeschichten zusammengenommen und einzeln starke Momente enthalten – das ist „The Red Garden“ von Alice Hoffman. Die amerikanische Autorin entführt uns in die fiktive Stadt Blackwell, Massachusetts und zeigt in ihren Geschichten Liebe, Magie, Trauer und die Menschen, deren Leben Veränderungen erfahren. Alice Hoffman hat die Geschichten ursprünglich nicht als zusammenhängende Familiengeschichte geschrieben – umso schöner ist es, wenn man sich jetzt das Buch als Ganzes durchliest und so auch ein wenig die Arbeit würdigt, die die Autorin in die Geschichte rund um Hallie Brady und ihre Nachfahren gesteckt hat, die den Leser noch eine Weile nach dem Lesen begleiten werden.

Definitiv ein Buch, welches ich weiterempfehlen kann und von dem ich hoffe, dass es noch viele Leser findet.

 

3 – „The Red Garden“ by Alice Hoffman

14 stories, woven together and telling the story of a town, whose inhabitants are so different and the single stories told have so many strong moments that you never will forget – that is „The Red Garden“ by Alice Hoffman. The american author invites us into the fictional town Blackwell, Massachusetts and shows us in each story love, magic, loss – and invites us into the lives of people whose lives are forever changed. Alice Hoffman didn’t intent to write the stories as intertwined as they are now – but now reading them is more beautiful with that knowledge in mind. So when the stories unfold before your eyes while reading you can enjoy the work Alice Hoffman had put into this book and in the stories unfolding about Hallie Brady and her descendants. I can promise you that at least one story (if not every single one) will sit in your memory for a while after you finished reading. 

Definitely a book which I can highly recommend and which I hope will find lots of readers.
