Nun habe ich es endlich geschafft, und den vierten Band dieser Reihe gelesen, in der es wieder einmal turbulent zugeht und die Geschwister Alex und Conner alle Hände voll zu tun haben – und mal wieder durch zahlreiche Geschichten reisen.
Now finally I finished reading the fourth book in the „Land of Stories“ – Series where some serious action is taking place and the siblings Alex and Conner have a lot to do – and they are travelling through stories as well.
Ich habe ja bereits über die vorigen Bände 1, 2 und 3 berichtet und so war es für mich wieder einmal eine schöne Zeit, die ich in diesem neuen Buch verbringen durfte.
I already told you about the first three books and so it was an easy thing for me to leave the world behind and jump into this new story.

„Beyond the Kingdoms“ beginnt mit einem Rückblick ins Jahr 1845, als die Großmutter von Conner und Alex dem jungen Hans Christian Andersen während eines Anflugs von Demotivation zur Seite steht. Hier erfahren wir auch, dass der Vater der Zwillinge nicht das einzige Kind der Fairy Godmother war. Er hatte auch einen Bruder – Lloyd. Und dieser war kein glückliches Kind, sondern hatte schon immer eine Art Dunkelheit in sich.
„Beyond the Kingdoms“ starts with a view back into the year 1845 when the grandmother of Alex and Conner helped young Hans Christian Anderson during a lack of motivation. This is also where we get to know that the late father of the twins also had a twin brother. His name is Lloyd and he never really was a happy child but had some serious darkness inside himself.
„My life’s work is about providing people with keys to happiness, but no matter what I do, I can’t seem to unlock my son’s.“
Als wir das erste Mal in die Welt von Alex reisen, die ja schon seit einiger Zeit in der Märchenwelt lebt und die Nachfolge ihrer Großmutter angetreten hat, befinden wir uns in Gesellschaft von verschiedenen Hexen. Eben diese erhalten auch Besuch vom maskierten Mann, der den versammelten Hexen seine Ideen schmackhaft macht und beginnt, Zwietracht zu sähen.
When we travel the first time into the world of Alex, who has taken over the job of her late grandmother and now is the „Fairy Godmother“ herself – we share the stage with different kinds of witches. And those were visited by the masked man who talked them into his ideas…
„The witches were easily convinced that the missing children had been a scheme concocted against them, and soon the entire tavern roared with hatred for the fairies. The Masked Man had the witches exactly where he wanted them.“
Aber auch Nicht-Hexen haben sich in die Gruppe gemischt und so wissen nun auch Jack, Red Riding Hood, Froggy und das dritte kleine Schweinchen von den Plänen des Mannes: er will eine neue Armee aufstellen.
But also non-witches were there and so Jack, Red, Froggy and the third little pig also know about the plans to get a new army…
But not only he got plans: Goldilocks and Jack are very pregnant including her messed up feelings and vomiting and Froggy and Red are going to tie the knot. Which doesn’t mean that Red isn’t combining a good fight with a talk about guest lists…
Nicht nur er hat Pläne: Goldilocks und Jack sind mitten in ihrer Schwangerschaft mit Gefühlsausbrüchen und Übelkeit und Red und Froggy haben beschlossen, zu heiraten. Was allerdings nicht heißt, dass sich die gewählte Königin nicht auch während Kampfszenen Gedanken um die Planung dieses Ereignisses macht.
„“Just as she was about to sink her fangs into him, Red hit her over the head with a chair. The witch fell to the floor and didn’t move.
„Well done, Darling!“, Froggy cheered.
Red dragged the chair close to him and had a seat: „Charlie, since I finally have you pinned down for a moment, I think now is a good time to talk about the guest list.““
Fraglich ist nur, ob es wirklich zu dieser Hochzeit kommt…?
Question is: will they ever make it to the „Yes, I do.“?
Aber nicht nur in der Märchenwelt geht die Geschichte weiter. Auch in unserer Welt (der Anderswelt) begegnen wir alten Bekannten. Bree, die bereits mit Conner ein Abenteuer der besonderen Art erleben durfte, ist ihrer Familiengeschichte auf der Spur.
But also in our world (the Otherworld) the time goes by and Bree, who had her share of adventure with Conner, is looking into her family history.
She is thinking that maybe she is related somehow to the Brothers Grimm. This thought came to her while thinking about their latest adventure and how she got so good during the portal to the fairy-tale-world…
Sie hat die Vermutung, dass sie mit der Familie der Grimms (ja, genau, die Gebrüder Grimm) verwandt ist und deshalb so unbeschadet und gut durch das Portal zur Märchenwelt reisen konnte. Während ihrer Recherchen stößt sie auch auf drei ehemalige Bewohner der Märchenwelt, denen es in unserer Welt besser geht.
Sie betreiben den Storybook Grill, ein Familienunternehmen im Stil der 1950er Jahre inklusive Jukebox und einem märchenhaften Menü: Ogre Burger, Beanstalk Salad, Cinderella Club Sandwich oder Snow White Bread,…
While trying to get closer to her familytree she stops at Storybook Grill and gets to know three of the ex-fairytale-world-people who now have found some kind of peace in our world. She kind of feels like she knew them, but clearly these three have vanished the fairy tale world long before Bree ever entered it.
But they have brought the familiar sounding names with them – so you can eat and think of fairy tale characters: Snow White Bread, Cinderella Club Sandwich,…
I bet Conner and Alex would have known them in an instant.
Seit zwei Jahren halten sie das Restaurant schon am Laufen und so wundert es nicht, dass Bree die drei nicht kennt. Alex und Conner hingegen hätten sie sofort erkannt…

Aber zurück zur Geschichte:
Alex hat mit ihrem kürzlichen Verhalten eine Menge Ärger ausgelöst und wird vom Feenrat degradiert. Allerdings lässt sie sich davon nicht abhalten, den maskierten Mann zu finden und seine Pläne zu durchkreuzen.
Das ist allerdings leichter gesagt als getan.
Back to the story: Alex had some serious problems regarding her behaviour and by the will of the fairy council she is no longer the fairy godmother. But she is not getting demotivated to hunt the masked man and cross his plans.
The thing is that Lloyd wants to create an armee of villains of different stories to get on top of the whole land and rule it himself.
Immerhin hat Lloyd vor, eine Armee aus Märchenbösewichten zusammenzustellen und mit dieser die Macht über das gesamte Reich an sich zu reißen…
Also machen sich Alex und Conner mit ihren Freunden mal wieder auf die Reise, um das Land zu retten und lernen auf ihrer Reise so einige Charaktere kennen, die nicht in ihrer Märchenwelt zu Hause sind, aber trotzdem viele Kinder und Erwachsene durchs Leben begleitet haben: den Tin Man aus dem Zauberer von Oz, einem ziemlich lauten Robin Hood, Peter Pan und den verlorenen Jungs – die dann zeitweise sogar Red als Ersatzmutter akzeptieren,…
And so Alex and Conner have to travel with their friends to save not only the Land of Stories but also the Otherworld. During their travel they get to know some other charakters who don’t live in the fairy-tale-world but have accompanied many children and grown-ups through life: the Tin Man from the Wizard of Oz, a very loud Robin Hood, Peter Pan and the lost boys… who shortly accept Red as her „kind-of“ mother…

In „Beyond the Kingdoms“ gibt es interessante Geschichten, Wendungen und herzzereißende Szenen, die sich bestimmt auch gut auf der Leinwand machen.
Immerhin sollte Warner Bros. Interesse an den Filmrechten haben, hat dieses Interesse aber zurückgezogen. Nun laufen Gespräche mit anderen Studios.
In „Beyond the Kingdoms“ there are interesting stories, turns in the story and heart-wrenching scenes which will be doing great on the big screen.
Warner Bros. was interested in the rights but has passed them along and so hopefully another studio will be found.
