So – my first day at the Leipzig Book Fair is over and I will tell you about it.
The good thing of a first day: not too many people. But still enough.

Now a little bit about my day:
First I went to the Traumfänger Verlag, to hear something about indian fairy tales and sign languages. It was presented by an author of the publisher, Kerstin Groepner.
She told me that many books are in the 2nd or 3rd edition. She also told me that the publisher is dealing right now with the design of new cover prints to get more readers. They aim to go more into Ethno-Crime scene.
After our little chat she began telling the stories which always have a moment of truth and wisdom in them and resemble our fables. She not only told the stories in a good way but she also showed the sign language for different words inside the story. The children were really impressed and followed with shining eyes.
Afterwards I was on the way to another event when I stumbled upon this:
„How the crocodile came to flying“ – here Katharina Lamprecht told about therapeutical stories and how they could help. In her coachings its all about rules and value, sense and hope – and the different messages told by the stories.
Also she told about the different meaning of „Trance“ – which mostly means concentrated attention to a certain thing. So we are most of the time in some kind of Trance.
She also said that these stories could be read just for fun.
Than I went on to juggling…
a sympathetic coach went on the stage and told us a little bit about juggling. Its good for your body and mind and for the simultaneous thinking, doing and feeling. Also juggling is a good thing for all ages and every kind of person.
So weit so gut.
Do you know this?
You think „Oh, that sounds interesting“, wanted to go to the reading – and the author is someone who couldn’t perform the part of story in the right way?
Happened to me. Today. Again.
So – normally „The perfume of anger“ sounds interesting.
The author seemed to be quite interesting, told something about himself, that he is originally from Frankfurt and lived some time in the USA. Also he told us about his themes of the books: the manipulation by media and government. A motive for his writing is the behavior of people in extreme situations. His role models in writing are Stephen King and John Grisham.
So far so good.
Then the reading began…
The scene seemed to be interesting – although he failed to tell a short introduction about what happened before.
Then he began to read – and I thought: oh my god.
It’s not a good sign for a publisher, if you want to do proper marketing and have an author who is not able to read in a fascinating way.
So for that I went on with my programme and left pretty early to go to my next event.
Next time I stumbled upon the rest of the event by Christo Foerster, who is the author of „Neo Nature“. It’s all about positive vibes in your life and the possibility to think and act in the here and now. According to Foerster we should be more in rhythm with the nature and get our power from that closeness.
We as humans need the nature and the rhythm.
The little things I heard were enough to motivate me and tell you that Christo Foerster is a good motivational coach and a very positive human being.
We should have more confidence and follow our instincts and on this way strengthen our roots.
Alles in allem ziemlich interessant.
Next was the discussion of the topic „Dreamjob: Translation of Literature“. A really interesting thing, even there were no big news. The two freelance translators told us about the positive and negative things of their job, of the difficulties getting a job,…
So … at last…puh, long day…
I wanted to go to this reading, than not… and then I found myself right in front of it: I would translate the title into „Whispered to the wind“ – a reading with the islandic author called Gundmundur Andri Thorsson.
He could work best with words so he decided to be an author. He and the translator told some things about the story and then they read – in islandic and in german.
This reading was the complete opposite of the former with the „oh my god“ comment.
The translator was really committed and the author himself also.
Ein schönes Ende des ersten Messetages.
A good end for the first day of the fair.
